Default Radio Problems

Since I had the car, the radio said "InoP" then I found a way on these forums to unlock it. Since then, the radio's volume increases heavily when I hit a bump in the road or sometimes it just does it because. The volume control knob is broken off and the end of it that sticks out it really wiggly. My question is "how do I install a new radio and speakers? Will I need to install new speakers with a new radio? Also someone said to watch out for the IIRC? I have no idea what IIRC means. Also any suggestions on good aftermarket radios helps.

I would just have a shop install a new cheap radio for you - no new speakers needed.

IIRC - If I Remember Correctly.

The only thing to watch out for is that the person isn't sure he remembers correctly.

If you buy from Crutchfield, they send a kit with all the stuff you need.

Best Buy, ABC Warehouse, etc., will do a free install for you (I think they may charge extra for some kits/parts, etc so it's best to check)

If you want to DIY, buy a stereo and these parts (for 95-99 S-series):
Metra kit w pocket (99-3105). $12.48
wiring adaptor (70-1858) $5.50
antenna adaptor (40-GM10). $3.65

(look up the part number on ebay or other site - prices listed are ebay, shipping included, from when I bought some)

Speakers can be done separately.

I just bought this (plays MP3 from USB/SD, no CD player) for $25 new. Haven't tried it out yet, but will be putting it in the minivan. Mixed reviews, but if it works, it'll be good enough

OK, one of the slowest product reviews ever

I finally installed the XD-103 last week. Was originally planning on putting in the minivan, ended up with another unit for that, so this one sat around until I had another car to put it in

Pros:
  • plays fine from the SD card, sounds good
  • is now less than $19 on Walmart.com
or take your chances on eBay for $9 shipped (new-other; open box)
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Mp3-Play...25.m3641.l6368

When turned on, it is a nice, bright blue color. Whether that is a plus or minus is personal preference

Cons:
  • biggest one, for me, is that there is no way to keep the clock on top. It always goes back to displaying the song name in a rolling banner, plus some meaningless numbers (I think total time the unit has been playing)
  • When you turn it back on, it always 'forgets' that it was set to random play, and will play songs sequentially / alphabetically
  • When you turn the power off, the entire unit goes dark. Power button is not illuminated, does not display the clock (yes, it is wired correctly)
  • Display segments are big, looks archaic.
  • volume knob is big, which is nice, but it takes two clicks for the volume to advance one number. and it will only advance one number at a time, so it takes a long time to adjust the volume. I normalized the volume on my SD card's mp3 (using MP3Gain freeware by Glenn Sawyer -there is another similar named software that is different) but still want to make minor adjustments quickly
Pic of installed unit here

Will turn it on later and get a pic

For the same price, you can get the XD107 which looks the same but has bluetooth (and one review mentioned it came with a remote, if you are in to that kind of thing)
