Default How to remove a door lock cylinder

Hi all,

I have 1998 Saturn SL1, and I have been trying to change the door lock on the driver's side. I removed the inner door panel (plastic), but reaching the lock from inside is a problem. The manual says to remove the pin (although it doesn't say where the pin is and how to do it) I have a feeling I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what. I can touch the lock, but I can't really see that pin or get good access to it with a tool. Please help!

Thanks,
R.

Put the interior panel back on and remove the EXTERIOR panel (at least that's how it goes on my 92 SC).

Not too sure what the manual is referring to on the "pin". There are pin-like things holding the outer door handle on. The outer door handle needs to be removed before the outer door panel can be removed. Again, this is how it goes on my 92 SC.

Which manual do you have?

Heres how to remove the outer door panel on a 1991-1995, 1998 is very similar. There is a phillips screw holding the black outer seal strip from the backside at the rear of the door on the top of the panel thats not on the 91-95 in step #4

Then unclip the retainer on the back of the cylinder, remove the rod, then unclip the metal clip holding the cylinder to the frame of the door. Done..
