Default Do saturns have both MAF and MAP sensors?

In the VW 1.8t, the engine has both MAP and MAF sensors... is this the case with the DOHC saturn? For those of you that have seen my posts, you know what's been going on, as my car is leaving heavy deposits on the tip, and is having trouble starting as well as crappy throttle response, and was hoping that removing the MAP could help diagnose the problem.

Default MAPs are for getting lost

Saturns all have a 1 bar MAP sensor. If you remove it the PCM will enter limp mode and also throw a DTC.

Definitely has MAP sensor in all Saturn motors, just wonder how much this part cost?

But what's MAF sensor, never heard of this term in Saturn's bible....

MAF is mass air flow. This is a hot wire anemometer used to measure the air flowing through a cross section. Neat stuff. And, no we don't have them in the Saturn bible (S-series at least).

I just installed a replacement MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor on my engine. Cost me about $35 for a 1-bar MSD unit from the local hot rod shop. This looked like a direct clone of the GM MAP sensor. MSD also makes a 2 and a 3 bar unit as well.

Oops....even though I know what MAF is, but what's the MAIN purpose to have MAF on board for cars anyway?

Measuring the Airflow mass will help the engine burn fuel better too?

OK, since nobody else asked, what's a bar, and what's the difference between a 1-,2-, and 3-bar MAP sensor. Are we talking about barometric pressure, inches of Hg, and the more bars, the more accurate the MAP sensor is?

A bar is a unit of measure for pressure--metric, I think. We never used it in school, so I can't be sure. We usually used units like atmospheres, kilopascals, psi, inches of mercury, or torr.

If you want to convert bar to psi, multiply by 14.504.

A 1 bar MAP sensor has the ability to read up to 1 bar--so it's for normally aspirated engines. 2 or 3 bar MAP's are for boosted applications. A 2 bar will function up to 14 or so psi of boost and a 3 bar will function up to about 29 psi.
