Default New Saturn model

It would appear that a new Saturn model will be designed in conjunction with Opel. It will be a five door? wagon with normal ride height and full time four wheel drive. It will have much enginnering done in Korea and be produced in North America for here and for Opel/Vaushaul. It would appear to be on a new larger version of the Epsilon platform.

Thanks for the link.

GM should make the Opel Insignia a future Saturn product, slotted above Aura. Carl-Peter Forster is doing a stellar job for GM Europe, as far as I'm concerned. Too bad he can't come over here and help Lutz give the NA market the shot in the arm it sorely needs.

Outstanding! Saturn is finally getting some product that has style and appeal. Regardless if it is Opel based, these should help with Saturn's new image.

hopefully they'll just re-badge them instead of "Americanizing" them by softening the suspension and adding length in the middle.

What image is that, Opel of America? Why don't they just rename the division Opel then?

Because Opel has little or no presence in the US today. And those that remember Opel from way back when, don't have a good view of them. Would you rather have a rebadged Chevy instead?

So, basically they're using Saturn's good name to fool people into buying Opels who otherwise wouldn't consider one?

No, I'd rather they just retired the Saturn name altogether if everything that defined Saturn is being trashed in favor of rebadged GM stuff.

No, they're using Saturn's good name to sell the "gotta have it" products that Saturn has never had before.

Dumping Saturn would be the worst decision ever. High brand loyalty and conquest sales are things very few other GM divisions possess. GM can't just throw that to the wind.

I think GM realizes that, the majority of Saturn owners wouldn't have bought a GM product if they hadn't bought a Saturn. I am definitely one of those customers, I would have bought a Jeep if I didn't buy a Saturn

Maybe nothing these days, although I thought they didn't have the best reputation for quality. The Cadillac Catera was one recent Opel import that had terrible reliability. But still, if you're going to sell Opels, might as well call them Opels, instead of packaging them as something else.

Maybe the purpose of Saturn originally was to fool people into buying GM when they otherwise wouldn't, so in that sense maybe packaging Opels as Saturns is no more of a marketing trick and sort of fits Saturn's original mission. Still, we all know that Saturn as originally envisioned and implemented operated under new rules and offered a unique product. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case.

Yep. That's cool with me. No more plain vanilla Saturns with smaller resale value than a 3 year old refrigerator. Bring it on, Saturn/Opel.

Because humans are weird? No one is saying it was a bad car. Should Honda have kept making the 1976 Civic? It was a good car; small, efficient, unique. But you can't make the same car forever, is that what you want Saturn to do? Things have to change or they die. You'd prefer Saturn to have died than be what it is becoming, others are anxious to see what is next. Some of us live in the past, some of us can't wait for tomorrow.

And young people in China think Buicks are the coolest thing in the world.

I think the US market would embrace Opel-flavored Saturns. And if you think about it, who cares if a Saturn is an Opel? If you didn't know it, would it change anything? Will the car suddenly become more/less reliable or better looking once you find out it was developed alongside an Opel?
