Was at Sam's club today researching 185/65/14 tires. Discovered two brands in particular that looked promising. One was a BFGoodrich 70000 Pro 85T for $52.04 a tire, $248 for all four installed. The other was a Goodyear Allegra T for $61.12 per or $285.48 installed. Both have 70k tread warranty. Thing is I go to both Goodrich and Goodyear web sites and I don't see either of these tires mentioned. Does anybody have any information opinion of these tires? Are they exclusive to Sam's Club only. As mentioned in another thread, I'm looking for either all season tires that are good in snow or some snow tires exclusively.
Oh one more opinion wanted. At Saturn dealer they wanted to change my two tires and I wouldn't pay their rediculous high price but they said one tire had a nail in it. I was unaware of that and it seems to be holding air fine. Do you think it's safe to drive a month or two more with the nail present?

Get a second opinion on the nail. Get it fixed for your own peace of mind.
Sam's Club, Goodyear and Goodrich may have contracted with an outside supplier for these tires like Kelly Springfield did my Monarch 185/70R 14s on my 95 SL1. Those ran approx. 56-58 apiece installed at 'Just Tires". They are made in Brazil You may have better luck getting information on those tires from the Sam's Club site itself. The price is certainly right for 70,000 mile treads.

I had a nail in my tire once for about 5 months or so. I would notice the air was low and would just add air. When I took it in for an oil change the Firestone people noticed the nail (it was huge too about 3-4 inches long) and took it out and plugged the hole. I would say as long as your tire isn't going flat that you can keep adding air and wait a while to fix it if necessary. I had to put air in mine about once a month or so, depending on how much I drove. Now I have tires installed from Bell Tire with a lifetime warranty so no more worry about flats or holes.

Hey thanks for that info. I wonder if that means there is a drop off in quality with these tires?

Mine are not the grippiest in the wet, but they are quiet, which is fine with me.The quality differences may only be in the type of tire you want to have: performance, touring, all season. Reading the data on the sidewall helps you figure speed load and temp rating [A, B, C], but I have never been able to decipher it properly. All things being equal between a Sam's tire and a Goodyear, they should perform the same IMHO.
I chose a similar more low noise and ride oriented tire for the Cavalier I had as well, also from Just Tires. A different "brand" but also manufactured by Kelly Springfield.I loved the difference it made in the ride and noise level, but that's me. They are probably the same quality, they just don't have the overhead that a Goodyear shop or Firestone tire would have to cover. Sort of like a store brand. A lot of stores contract with brand name companies for their own in house products. Same quality [in most instances], just a different label.

Dang, if there's a nail in there it's hidden well. We finally had a decent day so I was out inspecting the tire and without actually removing it, I can't see any nail and it's not losing any air. I have next Friday off and will stop at a local tire place to have it inspected and repaired if nail can be found. I assume Saturn was telling me the truth but I wasn't present at the shop when this nail was "discovered".

Check all of your tires. Some people don't know their left and right too well. May the tech or the service advisor may have just guessed at the tire afterwards while doing the paper work. At least 50-50 chance when you know front or rear.
Either way replace the tires in at least pairs. Four is better but more costly. Peace. ... A Saturn owner since 10/91. '92 SC, '91 SL2, 95 SW1, '06 ION3

We bought a set of 4 Goodyear Allegras from Sams Club for my 01 LW200 - and we're very happy with them. They are clearly stamped "MADE IN USA" and they've been working great - we have no complaints...

I'd check the ratings on the Tirerack website and see if it's what you need, can't beat 1000's of opinions. I got a high rated tire from there (Sumitomo) for dirt cheap which I would have not gotten otherwise since it was a lesser-brand. Saved me from spending a fortune on new Michelins like the ones I had, and they turned out to be better tires.
