Default Clicking Noise After Engine Start

Recently, I've noticed random clicking noises after starting the engine on my '03 V6 L300. The noise is located somewhere around the steering column and almost sounds like an electrical relay. After a couple minutes, the noise goes away until the next time I start the engine. I also noticed that the noise is more prevalent in the morning when it's cold.

Somehow, I don't feel this is a serious problem, but I would like to figure out what it is. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Could it be the ABS system doing it's self check?

You make a good point. However, this is something I have never heard before. Furthermore, the clicking noises continue even after I have been driving for a minute or two.

Are you sure the noise is from inside the car? Checked for TSB's for clicking and found nothing but I did find this.

Tick Noise From Engine
2001-2005 Saturn L-Series

with 3.0 Engine (RPO L81)

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s).

Condition/Concern:
Technicians may find a noise from the lifter area that may be intermittent. Lifter noise may be caused by one of two areas. Air may become trapped in the lifter which can be purged during engine operation. Operating the engine at higher engine RPM for roughly 10 minutes may help remove the air from the lifter. The second area may be debris inside the lifter which can become stuck in the ball seats within the lifter or between the piston and outer sleeve within the lifter resulting in the lifter being noisy from excess lash in the valve train.

Lifter going bad with a leak would allow the pressure to bleed off everytime the engine was shut off and would show these symptoms. Everytime the car was shut off, and enough time had elapsed to bleed pressure in the lifter.

It is not the "engine ticking noise" that's being talked about. That is a more serious issue. The noise I'm getting is actually inside the cabin behind the panel where the steering column is located.

I can replicate the clicking noise by pushing the "thumb button" on the shifter while pressing my foot down on the brake. The problem is that, even after I shift out of park, that same clicking noise continues uncontrollably.

Could it be that this shifter/brake mechanism is going bad?

Sure sounds like the brake/shift interlock...maybe just a loose connection.
