Hi All - I am new to this message board stuff..... Hope you can help! I have listed my questions below.
I just purchased an 80,000 mile 2000 LS2. (Large car) The car has been in the family since new and has some issues. The biggest issue is that it eats rear tires. Dealer replaced two sets of tires under warrenty and reset the alignment although that didnt seem to fix the problem. The car has never been hit. Is this inherent in the Saturn suspension design? Is there a real fix? Is there a tire that is best to counteract this problem? Should the struts be replaced even if not leaking? What brand?

Strange, since the fronts usually wear faster on a FWD.

Welcome!!
The suspension on the L cars has had an issue with tire cupping which causes a growling sound and/or premature tire wear. Not all owners have had problems with this, but both my L’s 2000 and 2003 have that problem. Solutions: the dealer can do an alignment and install a rear shim kit. The dealer has to cut a slot in some parts of the rear suspension. This allows for a better adjustment of the rear suspension (if remember right). Some owners will say it helped to have that done others will report no change. Tire solution: Well a good tire that is REGULARY rotated will extend the tire life. In my case that is every 5-6,000 miles. Check this forum for a thread “best replacement tires for the L” Struts: If the car seems to handle well and doesn’t bottom out easier then it used to then let it be for now. Think that replacing the struts is big $$$$. I would save the money for the timing belt, water pump, and spark plugs at 100K miles. ... Arguing on the internet is like competing in the Special Olympics: no matter who wins you're still retarded.
