2003 ION-3 Quad Coupe
Question Anyone change spark plugs yet?

Just wondering. Stock plugs are supposed to be platinum plugs & should last 100k miles. I've never used platinum before, so not sure if they really last that long.

So....who has changed their plugs already & was any wear on the plug gap noticed? What was your mileage & reason for changing?

Thanks in advance!
J

I changed mine at about 105K and the car was still running good. They will last 100K so I would not worry about changing them until then. Saturn changed them for me so I can't comment on what they looked like.

I'm at almost 25K and I am also looking to change them. i understand that platinum is supposed to last that long but that is only the tip. The metal on the arm will wear down and effect gap. The is no way in hell I am waiting to 100K. I am also the kind of person that wants to look at my plug to see how the combustion is going, check for any oil or ash. It is just one of those things. Does anyone know what the stock number is for NGK replacements?

It is prudent to pull plugs and put some anti seize on the threads, with an aluminum head they may not be that easy to remove at a higher mileage. Just a light coating is good, don't over tighten when re installing and be careful not to cross thread. Stock plugs should last their recommended change interval fine. A little dielectric grease on the boots will make them easier to remove at a higher mileage as well.
