155K on my stock clutch. Doesn't slip as of yet.

It all depends on driving habits. On my old saturn (93) i went through the first clutch after less than 10k. But i was young and stupid. Now i'm just stupid. Hahaha...

But I shift at 3-3.5k now, except the occasional light and lane change manuver.

Well, in general, the more conservative you are, the longer your gear will last. I remember when I had my RX-7 ('88 GTU, clutch type LSD) I would burn out every time I took off, and left some pretty good rubber for a little 146 horsepower rotary. Anyhow, the point to that was that doin' burn outs and redlining and all the fun stuff cost me. Although it was a cheap clutch (the previous owner put in a heavy duty clutch plate, but never changed the pressure plate.) at $455 for the clutch, install, and a lighter flywheel. But for our cars, the cheapest i found was $500, so go easy on the gear and a stock cluch could possibly last the life of your car (Or at least the first couple of hundred thousand miles.)

...
Well, all I can say is "Hakuna Matata!"

your mileage may vary. the original clutch in my 92 SC needed replacement after 102,000 miles of 4000 RPM launches. my 96 SC2 original clutch was going strong at 170,000 miles when I traded it in.

Saturns have a hydraulic clutch. You must mean a shift cable.

My 95sc2, the clutch went out at 70K. But I was young and dumb, and liked beating the piss out of that car.

I know better now, and Im much better at driving a manual.

Now I just shatter pistons

There is an inspector that comes to our shop he had 345k on his then it started to slip. The neon had 165k on it when i sold it and that was with 3 race seasons and a motor with alot more torque than the clutch was ever designed to take.

I have 185k miles on my car, clutch replaced 3 times. The last time it was replaced, the springs in the pressure plate failed for some reason with about 50k miles on the clutch, the disk and throw out still had alot of life. Thinking of replacing it again, not happy with the clutch in it right now, mild vibration when accelerating at low speeds. (I.E. Behind gramma who can't figure out you have to press the accelerator to move the car.) Upon normal accel there's rarely vibration though.

My dad has abour 300k on his original clutch. We almost had to replace it around 220k because of something I did in the winter on a snow covered parking lot. Spinning the tires at around 50 in 4th gear while the car is not moving, and then having the wheels grip is not a good thing. That cluth smelt really bad for a couple days. Drove poorly too. However, after a couple days of allowing it to cool down, it drove like a champ again. A little bit of young and foolish fun almost gave me a nice size repair bill...and to think, I still have not learned my lesson.

Not to mention you are very lucky you didn't blow a hole in the side of the transmission case because of a popped diff pin.

I never knew of that being an issue untill I joined this board. Now I take it easer when I drive that old car. When I was in school I used to leave rubber on the pavement all the time with it. I guess I got really lucky with that transmittion. I know my parents would not have been happy if in highschool I borrowed the car (mom's car at the time) and ended up walking home because I blew a hole in the side of the transmission trying to have some fum.

173k original clutch, same to the Alternator, no sign of giving up yet.

My water pump just blew last week though, original pump too.
Going for DIY replacement.

Good thing is the pump just leaks, not burst out. I could still manage to drive home by filling 1/2 gallon of distill water to the coolant tank.
