Default Odometer in the Dark

I got in my Vue tonight and took off down the road and relized the my odometer was not lit up. It shows the digits, but the backlit was out. has any one else had this problem? Can the backlight be fixed or do you have to replace the whole LCD?, I know with most LCD's you are better of the just replace the whole LCD than try to replace the backlight, is this the case here?

I doubt they would be able to fix a particular part of the cluster. My guess is that they would replace the whole thing.

Are you under warranty?

Not to be a wise guy, but have you adjusted the dash light control?
It is above the radio, to the left.

If you have, I would really bug the service department at the dealer

I was thinking the same thing Math God. I am always worried those things will die or stop working once the warranty is up!!! Ouch probably really expensive. Thats why we do not keep vehicles past there warranty. Not that Gm's warranty covers things well without hassle.... previous experinces.. arrrgghh. Have a good day (good luck dirtysouth)

It is not te dimmer switch because the rest of the lights in the gauge pod work fine, just the one for the odometer is not lit. I do have a warranty, but it isn't the factor warranty, the vehicle was out of factory warranty when I bought it so I purchased an additional warranty throught the dealer. My warranty has a $100 deductable, so would this be worth going in and getting fixed under warranty or would I be better of to just get it fixed on my own (is it going to cost more than a $100)?

Fix it yourself for $11.00 and 10 minutes. Two philips screws hold the black benzel on and 4 hex head screws hold the cluster on. Click on links below below for lamp location and picture of lamp:

I just ordered 10 blue LED bulbs on eBay coming out of Hong Kong for under $5.00... TOTAL! When they get here, I'll post back on how well they do.

Can they be used for the whole cluster, or just the odometer? I'm hoping the whole cluster. I'm planning to change as many interior lights (except dome and readers) to blue LED if possible.

Oh, if I can change the whole cluster, will the red areas (tach redline etc.) still be red? I tried to shine an LED light in the back that glows a bluish white, and the red still looked very red. I'm kinda hoping to get close to the VW cluster look

I found the bulb for $10 at my local Kia dealer (that also services Saturns).

I'm worried about setting off the air bag - how do you take the console apart without setting off the air bag system?

if you are taking the dash cluster apart you should not have to worry about setting off the air bad system.

2 screws hold the bezel around the cluster. 4 bolts hold it in. Just pull it forward. Kyle did a writeup when he swapped his out for a Torrent cluster. It's pretty easy, actually. He pointed out it makes it easier if you pop the top cover off the steering column. There's nothing there to interfere with the airbags.
