2000 SL2
Question Rumbling noise can't locate

2000 SL2 (82k) I have an odd noise coming from the front end (I think). A little hard for me to locate it exactly, as sometimes it seems to come from the rear passenger side. It is sort of a rumble that is getting louder lately, it happens both with the car in gear & when just rolling down a hill with it in neutral. It sort of sounds like wheel noise, but not sure. Checked tires & fronts are almost new (Futuras), the rear passenger is worn on the inside almost to bald-driver side is ok. Might be that, but worse case senerio, I hope, is that a CV joint is going out. How difficult is it to replace or approx what would it cost to have it done? Where I live you can't work on cars on the street & since I live in an apartment, landlord frowns on carport repairs. Anyway, what else could cause a rumble, or how could I narrow down where it is comming from? I just bought this car & am still trying to figure out what it is suppose to feel & sound like.

Could be a bearing. I got a similar noise and thats what the folks at Pep Boys thought when I went there to get a lug replaced.
