gas gauge not working

Last week I got my Vue back from the body shop at Saturn, I was in an accident about a month ago. Had it for less than a week and I ran out of gas. Didn't know what was wrong w/it, the gas gauge was showing I had half a tank - come to find out it stopped working. It was working before the accident, but Saturn is saying that their vehicles are notorious for the gas gauge to stop working - that they can't determine if it was caused by the accident - Anyone know if that's true. My vue is a 2002, had it for 6months.

The dealer is right the gauges in the Vue's suck. I think I would twist the arm of my insurance agent and clain you found some "hidden damage"

Problem most likely is to sulfur in fuel reacting with the metal in the fuel tank ruining contacts. The oil compaines and the car companies blame each other. shell sent out a bad batch of gas with high sulfur content in the south that caused this same problem on may vehicles. I posted it a while ago

It is probably something called fuel sending units. Go to the retailer and let them know when you fill up your tank your gauge only shows half full. They will replaced the units it take a good bit of time and do them a favor dont have a full tank of fuel when you go because they have to pump it out a lot of the time anyway. I hope this helps you get to the bottom of things.
