Default Window Tinting

If you get aftermarket window tinting (?) will the tint bubble up EVENTUALLY (over time) , or does it depend on how well it was installed. Also, is tinting the rear window a good idea since the defroster is there.

It depends on how well the job is done, otherwise is should not bubble. There's no problem tinting the rear window, and honestly wouldn't it look funny if you didn't and only did the sides. The defroster is not effected by the window tint.

Tinting is better done by a professional, plus if it does bubble you should be able to bring it back and yell at them, I know I can where I got mine done.

I bought 20% tint for $12 and so far tinted my rear windshield with the help of a friend... very few to no bubbles and it looks great. Ive seen some pretty bad tint jobs so I guess it depends how good of a job you do.

I sold my SL2 as of 6/08 :(

It won't bubble if it is done right and/or quality materials are used (don't buy that walmart crap). And for the decklid, at least in Colorado, it is illegal to tint the back if the sides are tinted in ANY way. I'm only saying that so you know, i certainly don't care what is legal and what isn't on a car. Tinted windows on a saturn also tends to cause problems with them going up and down if you have power windows.

BFtP we've had all ours done professionally. Only thing to watch out for is nicking the tint with your seat belt buckle if you have a habit of letting it fly when taking it off. Otherwise I have tint that is just starting to wrinkle (come to think of it it was a repair at a different shop due to a break in) that was put on in 1991 on a dark grey Explorer that bakes outside year round.

If you are going to attempt to try a DIY on your tint. Then I recommend using white vinegar and water rather than what the instructions say. They usually say use soapy water. DON'T, use soapy water unless your a professional. It's a pain the ass.
Also, the back window can be done alot easier if you do it in 2 pieces, (horizantely cut).
As far as the legal stand point in tint. In most states that I am aware of, as long as you don't go under 50% on the front driver and passenger windows you should be ok. The rear windows is what differs state to state.
Bubbling usually happends on windows that were not cleaned properly before the tint was applied.

I had my windows done professionally, and so far, no problems. I had 2 previous cars done as well, and never once had a bubble. Get it done professionally somewhere where they'll give you a lifetime warranty. Throw the receipt in the glovebox, and if you have troubles, take it back and make them redo it.

There is no need to make adjustments to the power windows if your putting on tint. The tint is probably only 1000ths of an inch thick.

my power windows go up reaaaally slow. The passenger side gets stuck when going down. Like suuuuuuper slow. My tint was done by some backyard DIYer cuz it's illegally dark and the front near the side mirrors is creased. Other than that it's great.
