Default Can you mod a leased car?

Not that I had anything huge i would do. I was just curious as to whether or not I could. What the penalties are. I know tinting doesnt matter at least that what I was told. I was just thinking of putting maybe the aem cai in or just a little somethin ya know. I dont think i can put an exhaust in unless i feel like keeping ht estock exhaust around for 2 years. Just wanted to find out what you guys thought. Or if I can do it, if you had any suggestions. Thanks.

Performance enhancements would seem risky. When I switched insurance companies last time I was asked if there were any modifications to increase the horsepower. I would assume that there are similar provisions buried within the fine print of the lease terms. As the owner of the vehicle, they are ultimately liable for the usage of it. Courts have gone after lease companies when leasee's insurance limits have been exhausted or they were operating without it. That's why leasing has been eliminated in some states and replaced with balloon purchases. You might encounter some trouble if the car were in an accident or totaled and you didn't have the opportunity to remove the mods.

I wouldn't bother putting money into mods for a car I was gonna drop in 2 years anyway, seems pointless to me unless you think you can sell the mods for what you bought them for before you return the car.

as long as you do bolt-ons that can be removed when you return the car, go for it.

My cousin's husband leased a truck, and was royally screwed by the way they handled some modifications he did. When they turned the truck in, they were charged for modifying it, then when they purchased it, they were charged for the value of the modifications.

The sounds odd. My logic would say that if you purchase the car at the end of the lease, it doesn't matter what you do to it. I know that if you exceed your mileage limits, you are not subject to the fee if you buy the car.

If you plan to turn the car in, make sure you can return it to stock or be prepared to pay fees. If you are going to buy the car at the end of the lease, call your lease company and ask them if excess mileage and/or damage fees still apply. Ask your retailer if they have to inspect the car if it's purchased at lease end.
