Default Advanced Audio System

Hello! I am new at this, so I hope it works out! I am just out of college and am considering getting a 2002 L200 or L300 in June when they arrive. For the difference in price, will the L300 be a good choice over the L200? I love audio and I am looking for some feedback on the Advanced Audio System. Does it put out good sound? How "advanced" is it? Is there good bass? I love music and there is nothing that ticks me off more than a car with a bad sound system. Anyone who has this option PLEASE help me out....what do you recommend? I am not looking to rattle the trunk with the sound system, I just want it to be super! I am anxiously awaiting responses! And one more thing, I hear that there is going to be a 6 CD changer available in the 2002 models, can anyone confirm this? Thanks!

I have it installed in my wife's L300. It's not bad, but it's not the best. Well my comparison comes with what I have installed in my 2001 SC2 vs. hers and there is no comparison but then again it's not a fair comparison. For stock audio systems, it's pretty good. You have an 8" woofer in back that is not enclosed. It's put in just like a normal speaker in the back. It provides bass but it's not booming or shaking the car. If you don't plan on getting aftermarket audio equipment, it's probably worth the extra money for this system.

BTW, before you buy it, why don't you listen to both? When I went down I asked can I hear both of them and they took me to two different cars, one with it equipped and one without it equipped, so I could hear the difference. I even played my own CD in there. So that way you can make a much better decision.

Thats a very good idea! I will be heading down there with a CD to test it myself. Why didn't think of that before...

Not worth it in my opinion. For less money (how much is the premium sound?) you could put together a system that will outplay and outlast the factory one. If its possible, get an L without a radio at all, then put in all aftermarket stuff. I spent $900 putting my system together. While it is not competition quality, it sounds better than the S series premium sound system (yeah I checked).

The L200 and L300 both come with some level of radio standard, so you can't really get just the cheapy AM/FM like I got (and replaced) with my SL2. One thing to keep in mind, any factory radio will be covered with the bumper to bumper warranty, which costs extra when you buy aftermarket eqmt.

The L premium does have a better sound system than the S premium. Especially since in the L you get tweeters and a subwoofer unlike that of the S. I got my SC2 with premium sound because all the special edition yellow ones came with that I believe. So I spent the extra money and basically got rid of it putting in my own system. It just depends on how much you want to spend. You cannot get an L with no radio at all. It's $255 extra for the advanced audio system in the L. So if you want something inexpensive that produces decent quality sound, you can't go wrong with factory installed.

Tenchi:

Got a question since you've the Advanced Audio System, do you realize there's no tweeters in the back doors speaker shells? Can you confirm that?

I won't feel surprise if you say yes, though I just wanna see if it's true.

Btw, have you ever worked on upgrading your L-car speakers? How tough to get to the speakers?
Thanks for any hints.

Supposedly there are no tweeters in the back. They removed them and put in the subwoofer instead and also added an amplifier. I have not confirmed this since I'm never in the backseat haha.... I wonder if the speakers in the backseat are the same as in the front seat or if they are 3 way or something.
I have not tried to get to the speakers. I would expect them to be pretty easy to get to. I know in my coupe it's very easy. Just removing the door panels shouldn't be too hard.
