2000 SL2
Default Ever seen 225-width tires on a Saturn? (pics, 56K warning)

Now you have:

A friend may let me borrow these for the PA State Solo II championships. He usually uses them for his MR2 Spyder, but since I helped him with his turbo MR2, he's probably going to lend me these, because the turbo MR2 has a 5-lug pattern. I have to use 5mm wheel spacers, but they fit. They're 15x6 Volk Racing TE-37 wheels with 225/45-15 Hoosier A3SO3 tires on them.

I had 215's on the back of my saturn. They were michelin I believe. I switch to 205/60/15 Falken Ziex. Those handle NICE!

I bet your handling is sweet. They look kinda like drag tires.

Did you have to do any mods to the suspension or anything else inside the wheel well to make them fit?

Unfortunately, I was unable to run these tires at the autocross event. It was raining, and I would've been much worse off.

And I just wanted to post pictures, I was under the impression that it was really hard to do this.......

actually 225 hoosiers are wider than most 225 tires. are those 215/45-16 or 225/45-16 kumho 712's in your gallery? what width and offset wheels are you using? i'm running 205/50-16 kumho 712's now on 16x7" 40mm wheels and was thinking of going to a 215 falken azenis or 225 kumho ecsta.

To go along with this anyone know what offset you would have to get on your rim in order to skip the spaces and slap on a 215-220 without any rub? Or would it be better to just get the spacers and go with a 215/45-17?

Either way I wish that I had 225's on my car more than ever! Cool pics.

The offset would have to be 35mm or less. Here's how I came to that conclusion:

The offset on the wheel in those pictures was 45mm. The wheel spacers were 10mm wide, effectively making the offset 35mm. So 35mm or less would work. Haven't seen a wheel like that, except Diamond Racing custom wheels. And those are for race only. But you could probably find one....

How do I measure the offset of the wheels?

I can't remember the offset.

I just said to the guy I want these tires you pick the offset that will make it work.

the offset should be stamped inside the wheel somewhere along with the diameter and width. mine say "16 x 7j 40mm" on them.

How in the hell do you guys do that? No camber? I have 205 Kuhmos and about 3 or 4 mm clearance between the tire and strut. I don't think I could run 205 hoosiers even.

It's all in the offset, my son

Wheel spacers, too. And there's only 1.7 degrees of camber on that wheel, so yea, not too much camber.

On stock wheels with the Hoosier R3S04's, running with ~3 camber in the rear, I've had to space everything approximately 5 mm out. There is still some "light" rubbing of the tires on the coilover perches (adjustable perches on koni coilovers), but I haven't seen much indication that it is digging into the tire. The toughest part is to account for the wheel deformation when it is under the cornering load. The fronts cleared without spacers, but they are on there anyway to give a wider track.

The problem with changing the wheel offset is that you have to do it for all your wheels if you plan to run 225's on all of them (we currently have 3 sets of stock alloys and will be adding one set of lightweight wheels next year). 4 spacers are definitely less than one wheel (although not necessarily the correct solution).
