2005 VUE 3.5L
2000 L-Series 3.0L Wagon
Roll Eyes Passenger Side Grab Handle

My wife is hanging onto the door, the dash, the dashboard and the seat hanging on when I drive. She says I corner fast and needs a handle to hang onto like so many other SUV's and trucks have. My Vue has no handle and I want to add one on the right door frame so she has something to hang onto. I know this subject has been mentioned before but has anybody found a good handle that will match the interior and install help? Thanks!!

Would like to see 4 grab handles on my Vue. One for each door.

A grab handle would be a great idea, but I inquired at the Saturn dealer about it, and they said that there wasn't much to secure it to, since there's room left behind the plastic for the airbag curtains. If anyone successfully installs a grab handle, I would like to hear about it.

Where are you wanting to put this handle? The usual "oh sheet" handle directly above the window is not an option with curtain airbags, and the dash-mounted handle isn't an option with the dash design in the Vue with the front airbag, so the only place I could see you putting one is on the A-pillar. I'm really kinda surprised there isn't one there. I just tell my passengers to hold onto the door and the armrest if I get too *spirited* for them.

I love it.... lol

Just get five point racing harnesses for all five passengers.

Then corner away!!!!! It is so sweet, kinda like your glued to the seat.

Hey, if you keep helmets in the trunk you won't hear any naging if your passengers have them on. Of course you need the full face style.

Have fun

Thumbs Up

First off thanks for replies to this post.

Is there no metal above the window to secure a handle? I understand the capability of the Vue to have side curtain airbags but there should be some very strong metal there to attach the airbags to the frame. If this is not the case then the A pillar is the next best place to attach a grab bar.

This past summer we had the pleasure of renting a Buick Rendevous that had an excellant grab bar. It even had a spring that held the handle out of the way until it was needed. This is the type of handle I would like to install. It would even match the color! The Buick was a nice ride but the Vue was certainly quicker and more nimble.

added post: My Vue does not have the sidecurtain airbags option

I think that the grap handle would get in the way of the head curtain airbag deployment.

The A-pillar seems like it already has 1 pop out for a screw.

Anyone brave enough to take off the molding from the A-pillar and snap some pictures to post?

I don't have the side curtain airbags and my better half would sure like the grab-handle up there. That's probably her only complaint about the Vue.

I have a drill and a nice sharp drill bit and could "go for it" BUT.... I do not know what is behind the plastic trim and really do not want to screw up the interior of my beautiful Vue. The spring loaded grab handle from the Buick Rendevous is really nice and would match but somebody (maybe somebody with a Vue body manual?) has to let us know the best place to drill into the steel on the A pillar.

As some of us know... happy wives are wonderful. LOL

maybe you could easier attach a handle similar to the loop style handle of the old fashion VW Bug. It would go above the seat belt.

Slow down.
Stop tailgating.
Don't stop so fast.
Take it easy on the corners.
Do you have to listen to *that* music?

And my fave, the foot stomp on the invisible passenger brake pedal.

That loop was there for crawling into the back seat. They had a loop handle on the dash for the front seat passanger. I drove bugs for years and do recall ever using it -- with 40hp - 50hp engines, they were not exactly flying around the corners.

Miataman,
Just have everyone wear sweaters and stick velcro all over the seat - problem solved! (unless you want to get out....)
