Default 2001 LST Concept/ SC2 w/ Perfor. Equip.

I was just at www.weick.com, and looked up pictures of the new SUV. What it found was surprising.

This was at the top of the page, with the text: 2001 Saturn SC2 (shown with retailer-available performance equipment).

The couple looks pretty slick, but I was wondering - the flared edle of the skin, under the bumper... Wouldn't that create a lot of drag? Shouldn't it be "pointed" inward, instead of sticking out? Though I'm sure it's very effective for pushing cows off the railroad track.

Just curious. Otherwise I like 'em both! I'd like to see some stats on them, though...

Hey 1/2 my post was missing.
Here's the News info

SATURN LST CONCEPT A TRUE SPORTS SEDAN

DETROIT - Saturn and General Motors have teamed up to create an enthusiast version of the Saturn L-Series sedan - the Saturn LST. Representing Saturn's first step toward producing a vehicle specifically for the sports sedan segment, special tuning gives this stock Saturn L300 a sportier appearance and performance enhancements to match.

"The growing interest in Saturn vehicles among the aftermarket community was key to our motivation for this vehicle," said Steve Girard, Saturn marketing team member. "The LST truly validates Saturn's ability to play in the sports sedan segment."

The LST concept boasts a variety of exterior features including special "Torch Red" paint, a new front fascia with a special perforated metallic grill, a unique rear spoiler and metallic perforated applique between the exhaust pipes. Exterior enhancements also include a ground effects package and special "LST" badging.

Performance features include a new exhaust system that converts the current single exhaust into a dual tip system, increasing the horsepower by approximately 10 percent. The vehicle also has larger stabilizer bars and new one-inch lower springs in the front and rear. The LST is finished off with 17" BBS RX wheels and Firestone 215/45R17 tires.

The Saturn L-Series debuted in July 1999 and features three sedan models, the L100, L200 and L300 as well as two wagons, the LW200 and LW300.

Thanks for the info. Saturn really needs to offer a 5 speed with the V-6 on the L Series. Any word on whether that might happen?

Yeah, that SC2 is a bit much, maybe if the ground effects were more like the LST it would look better. That LST is awsome, it really helps the front end look MEANER.

Hey,

I like the LST, it looks great and looks like quite the performer; don't care too much for the paint though. As for the coupe...it's ugly. The yellowish paint, embarrasingly high spoiler and lower bumper flares make it look like a riceboy (sorry, but to me, that's a bad thing). All it needs are some damn stickers (no offense to those who dig that sort of thing).

That LST really looks sharp!!! Now if only they can sell 800 of them a day, we can get our 2nd. shift back and I wont have to get up at 4:00 am to go to work.

If Saturn wants to tout the "sports sedan" nature of the L cars, then they need an image mobile like the proposed LST. They need to come up with a different nomenclature though. Where I come from, LST is short hand for "large, slow target."

As for the S coupe (and the S sedan for that matter), a sports package should be offered up there too. While the body kit is way too over the top for my taste as pictured, I am curious as to its configuration and equipment. Any words of wisdom on that front CatalystSaturn?

That LST is pretty sweet, although I still like the grille on the L300 just a *little* more (but this one definitely shows some agression, so it's really nice too.)

Maybe if they keep developing it (and offer it in colors other than that bright red), I'd consider getting one when I'm in the market for another new car.

I agree with others about the coupe being overkill. The ground effects are just way too overdone. And you'd think that with a bodykit like that, the car would get a bigger set of wheels.

On the other hand, I think the LST is pretty awesome. I really like the new side rocker panels and rear bumper skirt treatment. I think it would look even better if they replaced the amber turn signal markers with clears. I don't really like the grille though...looks like it came off a truck. Otherwise, I really like it. I'll take one in a more teutonic, low-key color though...like silver, black, or blue.

The Details of the SC2 are found in the Thread SC2@SEMA 2000 take a look.
I have to agree this bodykit is Fuggly. I think the wings west unit is 1000000 times better. Too bad they didn't make one for the 2001 models.
I'm TOTALLY supprised that they didn't do anything to spoof up the engine of the L300. There are all kinds of toys out there for that V6 for the Carera. (including a Vortech Supercharger)

I like the Torch Red and the front grille on the LST, guess the LST stands for L-Series Touring......

But still disappointed about the PowerTrain on the LST, only 10% bumped in power?!?! Come on! For a real touring class at least drop in a Turbo or SuperCharge it and bump it to 240-260HPs.....don't forget this is a SAAB 9-5 engine and capable to do so.

Saturn, give us more Pony-Power!!! You already offered a nice handling car here, we can all afford to pay for the Premium........Gas!

Agree/Disagree?

I've been thinking for years that a high performance Saturn could be called the SCT, SLT, now the LST. And when I saw that there was an LST I thought "Holy cow are we gonna have a turbo Saturn or something?" Well my hopes were dashed when I saw it was just an LS2 with dual exhaust. Save all the appearance stuff for the ads in the back of car mags, give me some big power, a manual transmission, and some upgraded suspension pieces. Kudos to Saturn for getting on the right track, but I think we need more than this.

Hey, I for one like the SC2. However,I agree that the paint could be a better color. Now if only they would put in some performance equipt in there it would be "all good".

I would really love to see a header, performance exhaust and an intake on that bad boy Meybe even a performance computer like Dodge offers for their P.O.S. Neon.

I thought I would be the first to defend that SC2 until I saw your post Abe. If they offered something to add on the body kit to an already existing 2001 SC2, I would probably be the first to my dealer. They definately need to get actual performance equipment in there, even if it's nothing more than an intake/header/exhaust switch out. Let's hope they make this stuff more widely available.

Food for thought:
The retailer starts stocking these parts because Corporate requests that they do. The owners begin to ask for more accessories and the Retailer looks into it. All of the sudden the retailer has SPS and Saturn Motorsports Brochures on the counter and stocking other items that the owner is looking for. As the Retailer they offer basic installs at the standard service charge and make more $$. Now, I know that this won't happen at my local Retailer(A.V.), but I'll bet places like Saturn of Santa Clarita and The Valley(CA) will be making as much in aftermarket alone as A.V. does all month for service.
IMPO: We all made this happen. Our requests are being answered so keep asking. The Retailers will see the $$ sooner or later.
