Default Saturn to call SUV... 'VUE'

Saturn just announced that they will call their upcoming sport-utility the VUE (pronounced "view"). You can read more about the name here.

What do you think about the name? Please post your comments.

Thanks,
Charlie

BLAH BLAH BLAH (cleaning off tounge after saying it). I think the name is pretty crappy. If anything, people will know the name because it's lame.

umm.. i think it sucks, figures...
i like the suv, wouldve considered one if it had about 3500 or better towing capacity charlie. i bought a dodge ram with the mag-BUM engine yesterday, hauled 3 saturns today, one on my truck/borrowed trailer (i'm getting my new trailer by sat) and two on the wrecker following.
back to the suv, craigs rendition on the two door pickup was a winner and should be a production vehicle, thats the kind of styling saturn needs.
hold on, view...vue, is it growing on me, no.. to much like pew, or foo or phew..
or even dog doo said the whoberryville citzen, john q who!
when all of a sudden, in a who-awful flash, suddenly a rash appeared on my ass...i scrathed and i itched to no avail when all of a sudden who did prevail, it was the grinch with a message and a tube of ointment for my sore tail.
he said oh mr who, jump in your vue and head over yonder mountain off to whoville, in whoville they have a doctor he can fix you up tight he fixs sore ass's,
he can fix you up right!
i stopped scrathing my ass for a a short tick,
to thank that grinch for not being a prick!
oh, oh, perscription from whoville doctor of ambein kicking in...getting sleepy...
zzzzzzzzz 1:30 a.m. lol

Ugh... Do they really pay people to come up with names like that?? Maybe I'm in the wrong business. I still like "V" Series, goes along with "S" and "L" Series. VUE is different - no doubt about that. Maybe different kind of name for different kind of SUV?

VUE = Vehicle Utility Economy? They sure couldn't call it the V-1 because that was a bomb.

VUE???

Wow... i'm really kinda shocked that Saturn named the SUV the VUE. Maybe every person who buys one... gets on of those VUEmasters.... with the turning wheel with pictures of what their new SUV can do.

V-Series I like. VUE.... hmmm... i'll have to chew on that one.

Hence the following senario:

Random guy at gas station "Hey what kind of car is that?"

New Saturn VUE Owner "It's a VUE".

Random guy at gas station "Is that the new Daewoo?"

New Saturn VUE Owner "Dae-who?"

Joey, again you made me laugh out loud at work. ...Thanks! Ever thought about writing a book?

I don't know. VUE does sound a little awkward. What could it possibly stand for, though? (And it looks more like it should be pronounced "vooey".)

And the write-up said that the name was not supposed to limit the car to a specific road type or something, right? So they gave it an all-encompassing name. Well, I don't see other SUVs being limited to the off-roads just because their names are Explorer, Navigator, Range Rover, Pathfinder, etc. (Not that I'm advocating those names. Just don't agree with the logic Saturn seemed to go by.)

What I would do:
Saturn should do a "name the SUV" vote. Like have a vote thingy on their web page, where you put in your VIN # (to prevent multiple votes), and then your favorite choice among a premade list of like 10-20 possible names (that were already approved by Management).
That way Saturn could:
1) Make current Saturn owners feel (even more) special in letting them have a hand in the company's direction.
2) You can bet that would be great advertising: "A different kind of company? You bet! We actually listen to our customers. Imagine that."
3) You'd know that whatever the name turned out to be, a majority of people would be happy with it, without relying on marketing projections.

Well, too late now. I guess I meant that they should have done it. I do know that I like the voting idea better than VUE, though.

<INSERT REQUIRED TOPICAL JOKE:> ...Is it too late to call a re-vote on naming the Saturn Vooey?

...Now I like *that*, actually, the more I say it!

So says Andy: I hearby dub the new SUV to be the "Saturn Vooey".

I'm not crazy about that name. Sometimes I wonder if Saturn hired the same marketing consultants that Amtrak used when they named their new high speed train "Acela"! (Actually, Acela is the name for all service in the northeast and the new train is the "Acela Express" - really stupid, and confusing to most people who aren't train enthusiasts.) Anyway, it could be worse, but I think I could come up with something better...

Doesn't anyone at Saturn know the meaning of the word CONSISTENCY? (see bottom)

Anyway, my opinion on the new name can be summed up with one word - FEH! The name is just asking to be made fun of. Voo-ey is the most likely candidate. I did a Google search for VUE (over 135,000 hits) and found that there may be some copyright infringement suits to follow, since H-P has a product called VUE for their HP-UX boxes.

The moniker VUE seems to be a meaningless aggregation of three letters that "might" stand for something, but is probably just another t-l-a (three letter acronym) that the geniuses in marketing think will help sell a vehicle in an already oversold market class.

How about this; let's make up our words to match VUE. For example, VUE could stand for:
- Versatility, Utility, Efficiency
- Very Unusual Experiment
- Visually Uncommon Engineering
- Valuable Use of Energy
- Vehicle Unlikely to Excel

As you can guess by now, I'm not a big fan of the name.

I think all the vehicle naming should change to that now being used for the L-series.

S-series sedans: S-100, S-200, S-300
S-series coupes: C-100, C-200
L-series sedans: L-100, L-200, L-300
Minivan?: M-100, M-200, M-300
SUV: X-100, X-200, X-300

VUE? I can live with it. It's no more silly than RAV-4 or CR-V, and a lot better sounding than VehiCROSS or Xterra.

Hopefully the vehicle will have great sales based on its merits (and hopefully some awesome and copious advertising), and the name will be more of an afterthought.

Default In support of the VUE

I think VUE is befitting the Saturn SUV. I can actually sorta see it. But isn't there another car product named 'VUE'?

Well, at least the logo on the Saturnalia intro page doesn't look bad.

Yes, ditto with the BOORRIINNGG!!

Have you seen the VUE? No, you're blocking the VUE.

If they were going for a name, why not Bob, or Fred?

Maybe the badge will help.

Or names for all Saturns..

While I like the naming convention of tabo the most, I don't think the BMW lawyers would go for the 'X' thing...

It's amazing that it took 'research' to come up with this.

On a different note, what are y'alls reaction to the 'VUE' styling?

I've always wanted to buy a Saturn, but couldn't. When I finished college in '91, they were still installing the crappy motorized belts, in '97 the S series was too small for my needs. Now, when I am looking for a car (truck) in '01, I find myself not accepting of a couple of the styling traits:

1.) The tail lights. Is it just me, or do they appear to be all red? What happened to 'amber' turn/hazard lamps? I thought Saturn was to have an International flavor to steer customers who wanted to buy American, but usually went for imports. Having lived in Europe for the last four years, I often notice that the American cars that are modified for European regs (i.e. amber turn/hazard lights) often are more attractive than their 'domestic' counterparts. Oldsmobile is going after the more upscale market that Saturn is aimed at. Even the new Aurora has amber turn signals. But enough about taillights.

2.) The T-shifter on the automatic transmission. It was pretty functional on my !!1985!! Buick Grand National. And my girlfriend's 1990 Geo Prizm. My point is, why are they putting such dated technology on a new product? I know there is 'brand familiarity', but it just looks cheap and crude. I may have to pay a little more, but the Buick Rendezvous may be my next car...if they pull out the crappy 3.4L and put in the 3.8L (with the supercharged option). Who knows, maybe the engine and solid performance of a Saturn X-300 (Thanks tabo) will win out over a dumb ass name and some styling flaws.

As some literary great once said..."they have laboured mightily and brought forth a mouse".

If this is the best Saturn can do in coming up with an appealing name for the SUV after all this time,I can only hope that it is not indicative of the final product rolling off the assembly line next fall!

They might as well have named it UGH.Someone suggested a competition and I agree.Let's try for a better name and send it to Cynthia et al whether they want it or not.
