Default '92 SL2 help needed

My 1992 SL2, for lack of a better word, bucks or surges when going a steady 28 to 30 mph. It runs fine at other speeds and does not act at all weird when accelerating at any speed. The problem only occurs at the above speeds (so far) and is actually occuring intermittently. Does any one have any idea what may be going on?
Thanks.

Best guess would be that the EGR valve is coming on too early or too much. The best way to check this is to disconnect the EGR valve. The valve is the gold "UFO" looking valve at the back of the engine. Just disconnect the vacuum hose from the top of it. If the problem goes away The valve is bad.

good luck

What he ^ said. I would only add to plug the end of the removed hose with a golf tee or similiar item.

Well, you hit it right on the head. I unplugged the valve then plugged the hose with a nail and voila the bucking disappered!!

Thank you very much.

Now the question is, do i fix it or leave it unplugged??

The EGR valve is an emissin item used to lower oxides of nitrogen in the exhaust stream. Without it you may not pass emissions in your state. Another reason for the valve is to lessen or eliminate predetonation (engine ping). Engine ping has been described by some as equivilant to someone taking a large hammer and slamming the top of the pistons.
