Default Speaker Size Confusion

I have a 2003 Ion 3.....I want to change my speakers but finding out their size is being a problem..

Reading here and using Crutchfields 'what fits my car' is saying all 4 speakers are 6 1/2"..

But Etonics is saying all 4 are 5 1/4" and I did a half way measurement myself(without taking a speaker out, measured the back of a rear speaker) and it seems around 5"....

So does anyone know for sure? Maybe Saturn is using 2 different size speakers in certain models of Ions?

Thanks in advance.......

I believe they are 6 3/4", but 6.5" will fit..

they are likely oversized 6.5 (or 6.5s as sometimes called) My 94 SC2 used oversized 6.5s......regular 6.5 speakers did not fit correctly

but of course that is a 10 year old car.

but I can tell you that they are definitely NOT 4.5 or 5.25

I had Pioneers 6x9 and 6.5 in my last car.. They sounded great. I think I'll go with Pioneers again in this Ion.

Thanks for the info.....Now I can start looking for some 6.5's.....

Default Orion Cobalt 6.5's

GO with the Orion Cobalt 6.5's.

They are amazing, i've had them in two cars, and for the money they are the best 6.5 inch non-component separate speaker on the market.

They are 3 ohm so they have great bass response, and they also have a built in crossover that more or less makes it like a component speaker only the tweeter isnít removable.

They arenít commonly found in stereo shops so online retailers are the way to go, but they can be had for under $100 shipped.

They fit all 6.5 inch speaker applications even though they are "oversized" 6 and 3/4 inch speakers.

Happy hunting

~Jason
