Default Dome Light

Can anyone tell me the best way to replace my dome light with a strobe light?? I need a 12v power source and I'm not sure where that comes from. The new light has two wires, one that needs to be grounded and one that goes to the power source. Any ideas? Thanks to anyone willing to help!

Uhhhhh why would you want to? Any way take out your dome light bulb and with a test light put one end to a metal part of the car. The other end to where the bulb connects. If it lights up that's your power, if it doesn't it's ground. Oh yeah you gotta try it both while the light is supposed to be off and when it's supposed to be on. I can't remember if the pos or neg is switched. By the way I'm not the post police or any thing but this should have been posted in the tech help section. This is for How-to and tips.

Your dome light has a "hot" 12v+ lead and two grounds coming into it. One goes to the door switch relays and the other is controlled by the switch on the dome light. Use a test light/multimeter to identify these and there are your connections.

People might be confused if they have "how to" questions, and see the how to forum..

anyway.. interior strobe light seems a bit extreme even for Las Vegas.. What if you need your dome light for like looking at a map or directions or something at night? A friend of mine has a bunch of aftermarket lights in his car on seperate switches, blues that shine down into the foot areas up front, and 2 of the aimable leds pointing down into the cabin from the top of the A pillars. He replaced the dome light with a blue bulb to keep some light color consistancy in the car.. It's pretty cool at night if you need to see for some reason or another..

You could put the strobe "in series" with your regular dome, so you have light that occasionally gets brighter. +12v hot is always there; it's the grounds that are switched.
