Got a Vue two weeks ago to drive around in lieu of my Excursion. I RV all the time and the X is being limited to just towing and not daily use. I'll use the VUE for that.
Got it with 73k on it and it runs like a sewing machine. Had to do a lot of little things that most people just ignore but they were impt to me. My question is. I'm old, 71, and in my X I drive 62 mph when towing or when just driving. Yeah I'm driving slow. I understand. If I drive the VUE the same what RPM's should I be turning on the highway with cruise control on and not wear out the engine with high rpm usage. I have no idea how well build these engines are and would like feedback if anyone knows. Gramps |

There are three engines, 2.2L 4cyl, 3.0L V6 and 3.5L V6. You may be old but can afford an Excursion for towing an rv so don't let anyone tell you how to drive, especially when driving for best fuel economy.
Whichever engine, best rpm correlates to speed. 55mph was always the EPA accepted fuel economy standard so adjusting for real world speeds in your area varies fuel mileage with lowest rpm, highest gear (over drive if possible) at whatever speed is comfortable to you. The lowest rpm means less fuel burned so xmission gearing will return best speed without being run over by everyone. If you can drive at the lowest rpm at the highest speed in the right lane, you should have decent mileage. This also minimizes engine wear. |
