Hi all,
Yesterday when I got home after about an hour drive in mixed traffic, the coolant fan remained on after I turned off the car, Aura 3.6 XR. I don't recall this ever happening in the three years I've owned it, should I be concerned? Thanks in advance for any help.

Review your owner's manual. Many vehicles with extensive electronics make use of them in advanced ways. GMs factory antitheft system uses on board electronics (ecm and bcm) to disable engine functions with the press of the remote to Lock all doors.Thieves unable to turn on ignition would encounter a non functional car and leave. Another is detecting engine heat soaking after a hot and humid drive in local traffic with ac running. With the engine running hotter, chances of overheating are minimized with cooling fans running when needed but when parked in this condition, electronics are still monitoring coolant temps. With higher coolant temps already bordering on overheating without cooling fans running, the engine computer has programming to ensure overheated engines are cooled down by automatically turning on cooling fans after engine shutdown for a few minutes. Coolant temps must be high enough for this programmed event to occur. Once enabled, fans run until temps drop to another level before the ecm turns off fan cooling. Most Saturns with this feature are timed to no more than three minutes with ignition off to prevent draining the battery. If fans run longer after engine shutdown, this would be cause for concern.

If there is no check engine light and the fans turned off on their own, it's likely normal but check your coolant level. Keep an eye on the temperature gauge for indication that it may be reading incorrectly.
Like fdryer indicated, there are conditions programmed into the computers which will cause the cooling fans to continue running after the ignition is switched off.
