Default Code P0315

Hi Guys,

So after having several misfire codes, changing out coils/spark plugs, my father and I changed the ECM and the car ran find for a bit. However, it then threw a P0315 (Crankshaft Position System Variation) code. Looking this up, I saw the system needs to be relearned. Is this right? Or is something else the issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as we are trying to get this car running smoothly again.

2007 Aura XR with about 230k KMs.

Thanks for looking.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

I believe it needs to be relearned after an ECM change. I changed the Crankshaft Position sensor on mine and didn't relearn it, had no issues. The function is part of misfire detection program.
It is usually relearned using a scantool but at the time I was looking around for relearn procedures, I found this link that details a manual method. I can't say if it works though, never tried it. Probably best to get it done with a scantool though.

This seems to be the procedure when using a scantool.

Here is another one:
Might be for another Saturn model but might work.
Might be too late though if it has been driven.
But it's free to try...lol
"If replacing PCM with a replacement PCM, procedure will be prompted automatically. Allow engine to idle until SERVICE light flashes. Hold engine speed between 3000-4000 RPM until light goes off after about 10-20 seconds."
