Default Tire choices

So I've got a nice 2007 Vue about a year ago. I got the nice alloy rims from a junk yard (the Payless Saturn Auto Salvage in Kansas. On a quick side note, every time I call for parts , those guys are extremely busy). the rims are 16x6.5 J (if the J matters). My tires are 215/70s with the plastic wheel cover. I figured I needed to get the 235/65s for the new rims. this site tells me I shouldn't go above 215 width

https://www.tyresizecalculator.com/c...rim-size-chart

And do I even want to get 235/65s. They are the same diameter as the 215/70s so they wont look different. And I am more concerned about wet traction. any opinions and advice would be appreciated.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Can you clarify a couple of things?

The wheels are Saturn Vue Rims?

And you already have a set of 215/70 tires? I assume 16"?

whoops. Yes they are vue rims. the 5 star ones not the "busy" ones. And yes the current tires are 215/70 r16s with the plastic hubcaps.

I mean if the tires are already on the rims, and you say they're the same height, then why not just drive on them?

my tires are on the steel rims with the plastic hubcaps. I need new tires so I thought I'd get the nice rims. so I have the nice rims but dont know what tire to get to put on them.

Generally the alloy wheels on the Vue gen 1 were paired with 235/65R16 tires. Coincidentally, I have an extra set of Vue rims with tires that could make it's way to you since we're both in NY.

thanks for the offer but I already had the rims. I saw they came with 235/65R16. I decided to go with 215/70. Got Firestone Weathergrip. I've previously used Continental Eco for the Vue. they seemed to wear out too fast. Love the Continentals for my L's but they just didn't work for the Vue.

The stock size for the 17" wheels is 235/60R17.

I went slightly larger with 235/65R17. I don't think you can go much larger without the tire rubbing on the base of the front struts.
