Question 2005 saturn vue front end shaking

Especially at low speeds on a rough gravel road, there is a very pronounced shaking in the front end of the vehicle.

This vehicle was owned by my friend, he made delivery driving in this vehicle for about two years with this issue and it's just stayed about the same. Lots of things have been replaced, all four shocks, all four sway bar links, upper and lower ball joints on both sides, inner and outer tie rods on both sides, wheel bearings on both front sides, brake pads and rotors, the big motor mount in the front and the one on the passenger side, new tires, balance and alignment.

Only things I can think of are control arm bushings which I rule out because the suspension itself feels very solid. This almost feels like something separate but honestly it is so hard to tell. You can drive this thing 80 down the highway, smooth, but going around town and such it's just so shaky.

I also want to think maybe it's the transmission mount but it shifts so smooth I would think I would feel it more and not just over bumps and such in town.

No idea. But, I only paid 500 for it. It's in great shape he's always kept up oil changes and maintenance and I did the suspension work for him so I have an idea on what's going on with it. Needs cleaned and has some chipping paint.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Four or six cylinder?

You said shock but probably meant front struts.

Any play in steering wheel sitting still?

Rust belt car? We're seeing lots of recent reports of front cradle bolt mount pads rusting out.

Six cylinder, and yes front struts were replaced and the rear shocks as well. There is nothing going on sitting still.

Ive been under this car a lot and from what I always remember is that it is very rust free and the bushings are in great shape. But obviously something is wrong.

04-07 Vue's with 3.5 have four engine-transmission mounts - repost if you need to locate all of them.

I've attached some service manual extracts which could help isolate cause.

Thumbnail is top view which calls out three other docs which are attached as pdf's.

So after searching all over the vehicle, the problem seems to be the sway bar links. I replaced the front one and it stopped one clunk, but theres a seperate clunk coming from the rear sway bar link, so i am replacing that one as well as the other front one today.

Its just so strange. We replaced so many parts trying to fix that sound, but those sway bar links were the first parts we did, and it was the valucraft brand. This time I'm going with moog. I never had a problem with parts broken out of the box until this incident.

Ill keep you posted.
