Default Swap questions

When swapping from sohc to dohc. I need motor trans wires and computer.

Are there any dash components that would have to be swapped over.

Unless it's a '91-'94 you can leave the wire harness alone.

Only the cluster should be swapped over if it's a '91-'99.

Transmission only needs to be swapped if it's an automatic, unless it's a '96-'02 and you have to keep cruise control working.

You might want to swap over the instrument panel so you'll have the correct redline and higher speed on the speedometer. But it'll run fine without it.

My 96 SL2 and 98 SL1 have joined together to become one. So I guess I now have a 1996/8
SL1-2.

The exhaust is different, and so is the throttle cable. You might also need the air injection depending no the model (Cali vs Federal). Oh, fuel line's probably different too.

ok so mine is a 97 sohc manual. donor is a 97 dohc manual. its been trashed pretty bad and has been hit.
ill need dohc motor using the trans i have but get the wiring harness that goes with that dohc motor.and get the cluster

Why wouldn't you take the DOHC motor, DOHC trans, DOHC engine wiring harness and DOHC PCM? You can remove the motor, transmission and engine wire harness as a complete assembly. The DOHC transmission is geared more towards performance and RPM's will be higher in 5th gear. It takes a marginal hit in fuel economy but to be honest I don't notice it between my SL1 and SL2. I do notice the SOHC needs to be shifted down on hills while highway driving and I found that annoying.

Mileage is stored in the gauge cluster and other than that you can use either one. The SOHC tachometer redline is 5500 where the DOHC is 6500. Speedometer reading will be correct with either.

thank you trottida. it would seem like less work to pull all at once. a big part of me just wishes the donor car wasnt in the shape that its in so that i would have to do all that swapping. thanks guys i believe i have a game plan now
