2000 LW1 Security System Question
Having trouble with Lock/Unlock key transmitter; afraid to lock with transmitter in case won't unlock...spare transmitter ruined by washing machine years ago...
Sat two days while cleaned transmitter and tried different batteries until finally unlocked (may've unlocked per sync try but unsure)...am getting new transmitter...
Question: when locked with transmitter and security engaged, if unlocked manually with key and driven, would security system have fit?? horn, fuel shutoff, whatever???
Owners book doesn't seem to cover, only mentions improper key fuel shutoff...
Any comments appreciated...

Re: 2000 LW1 Security System Question
When using remotes to lock/unlock, two things occurs. Doors lock/unlock, GMs Passlock theft deterrent system is enabled/disabled. If a remote is used to lock doors/enable Passlock and the remote dies, is lost, enters the cleaning cycle in washing machines, drowned, run over, stepped on, thrown away and you have the ignition key - simply open the door manually and insert and turn the ignition key to ON within 10-15 seconds to disable Passlock from turning on with flashing lights and cycling the horn. Even if you're slow and Passlock turns on, flashes lights and sounds the horn, inserting the ignition key and turning it to the ON position should disable it or at least the alarm system. Passlock, when enabled and activated (flashing security light) disables injector operation - the starter will work to turnover the engine but the engine will never fire up since injectors ate disabled. In the event security flashes quickly, leave the ign key in the ON position for ten minutes - Passlock will reset in ten minutes while you wait. When security stops flashing, cycle the ign key off and you should be able to startup.
If you buy replacement remotes, bring them to GM or a locksmith capable of programming the bcm to accept (up to) four remotes. There is no diy programming. It must be done with either GM or locksmith using the same scantool to plug into the OBD II port and communicate worth the bcm using GM propriety software.
