Default Valve Cover Painting

Just thought I would share a pic of a painted valve cover I did today! It's a little rough around the lettering but I'll be clearing that up once everything cures.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Nice job! Did you strip all the existing paint down? Getting in the nooks and crannies of those raised letters is a helluva hard job.
Looks really nice!

I typically powder coat the valve covers on the engines I rebuild, I just leave it the OEM color though. The trick is to paint the entire thing and then sand the top of the letters. You could then go over the bare metal with the color of your choice if needed.

Here's another trick for the raised letters. I just covered mine with vaseline prior to paint then after u paint just a qtip and rubbing alcohol. Wipes right off.. And to prep I simply put it in my bathtub and washed it with a green scrubber sponge and dish soap lol...ahhhhhh apartment living

No I just cleaned it off really good and then sandpapered the existing paint to let the primer "grab" onto something. Then I used a can of black VHT engine enamel to get the clean gloss black look. Letters were actually done BEFORE the black by spraying it red and letting it sit overnight, then I put silicon grease over the letters so the black wouldn't stick. After all was said and done I simply peeled back the black paint off the grease to expose the red lettering! Clearly I need to peel off the small tidbits here and there though.
