Default Adding LED lights?

I want to add led light strip to the trunk, could I tap the power from the 3rd brake light in the window?

Also I would like to add more lights, for this I would need a (3 place??) rocker switch

Light #1 on //// OFF //// Light on #2

so both lights cannot be turn on at the same time.

How do I figure the size of wire and where to tap as they should only be used while the car is on.....

Thank you !

Here is a great site for finding a wire harness with the correct gauge wiring. Also comes with the relay already attached!

This is what I used before the Spod Source.

18-14 awg wire would be fine for nearly any average cost automotive light. I'd go with 16g wire for off-road style lights as long as it's a quality wire that measures the gauge of the copper wire and not the gauge of the cable (by this I mean cheap wire usually measures the protective outer layer as well to boost their wire size, so 16g cheap wire is actually 20g or 22g).

High power LED lights only need 2-3 amps, so even 18awg wire would be plenty for a pair, lower power strips would be fine with tiny 22awg wire.

This site has a handy chart for AWG -> Amp capacity, which is good/safe up to about 10ft of wire (plenty for the S-Series). Other charts take into account the increase in resistance and volt-droppage over long distances (20ft -> 1000ft) and recommend larger gauge wire for smaller loads. There's nothing wrong with using a larger gauge wire, they just add to the project cost and could be harder to route through the car.

So for some reason links don't work.

You could use this and hack-engineer a 3 switch rocker panel.
