Default 2007 Aura electrical problems or security problems?

Today a friend sold me a 2007 aura he got on a deal that needed work. I ended up giving him $200 bucks for it just off the pictures he sent me. When I to pick it up I was pretty surprised by the condition of it. Its a 3.5 with 124k. However I'm already frustrated with it. Everything is fine until you try to crank it over. It just does absolutely nothing. No lights change or dim, it doesn't click or anything. There was a push button wired in and it fires right up and drive with that. No gauges work, the security light stays on and it will not shift at all.

One friend told me it was because the starter was jumped and the security system is acting up. This is my first ever Saturn and I really like the car. I'd throw a few bucks at it if it was a simple or reasonably priced fix. I just don't know where to start. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

First thing that's needed is to remove the push button and repair the factory wiring that's been tampered with for that install. Was the push button installed to by-pass the starting problem?

Make sure the key is programmed to the car as well.

Check connections at the BCM module near the front of the console, you can pull the passenger side console panel off and you'll see it. Also check connections at the VCIM module located on the far right of the dash, dropping the glovebox will reveal the module.

Thanks for the reply. Neither of us have any history on the car. I assume the button was installed to bypass the starting issue. No wires or anything were cut to hook it up, just those little blue things that piggyback the wires.

I'll go out and check connections. Thanks again.

From what you've written it sounds like you are going to have to deconstruct the home made wiring job first, then see what the PO did not fix correctly-It would not surprise me if the BCM, or the security system (or some other module) was the original problem-that is a CANBUS system and all kinds of modules talk to each other via the BCM and/or the ECM, so it is not going cheap or easy to fix. As long as it only 'starts' with a button/switch with no gauges and no shifting it is worth scrap-no shifting is limp mode and that has to be fixed properly.

Have you tried to scan for codes?
