2003 ION-3 Sedan
Default clank in motor

Hey everyone, parked my 01 Ion 3 in the garage last night it was fine. started this morning, it fired right up with a whirring noise and metallic clank that followiing RPM. no leaks, runs fine. 200k miles it could be a rod but its a very loud bright metallic clank, im used to bigger motors with more sutble rod knock. the whirring is odd, i guess what im asking is there somthing common on these like timing chain tensioner or maybe top end issues to look for? ill put the screwdriver or stethoscope to it later and try and pinpoint it.
thanks!

I don't know, but I wouldn't drive it until it's diagnosed. It may be the timing chain from your description of the sound.

There are You Tube videos documenting the sound of a timing chain going out on various Ecotecs of the period [03-04 ].

You might check those out and see if they sound similar.

Being overly cautious won't hurt.

Did you mean 03 ION 1 ?
