2006 VUE 3.5L
Default Just bought a 2006 Vue, any advice?

I got my hands on a one owner 2006 with only 59700 miles on it. Had to replace the rear tires (they were the original ones!), and a door mirror assembly but it seems like it's in near perfect condition.

This is my first non hand me down car, that I've taken on myself and I wanted to get a solid community to help me keep it in tip top shape.

Right off the bat, is there any advice you would give a newbie to owning a used Vue? Anything particular to watch out for?

Any and all input is appreciated!

Also I'm going sometime this next week to a local junkyard to get a that mirror assembly of a passed away twin of my own new to me car. Is there any parts I should snag off while I'm monkeying around in there, just to keep on hand?

Welcome aboard! Which engine is in your '06? (You can add that info into your profile.)

Congrats on snagging such a low mileage '06 - my '07 has 135k mi. on it. The first thing you probably want to do is a tranny fluid 'drain and fill' with some Honda DW-1 . . .

Most folks here recommend doing this every 25k mi. to ward off torque converter problems - a common issue with these Honda 5ATs.
The only other thing you might be doing before the 100k Maint is a wheel bearing. These VUEs go through those fairly regular.

Might think about the timing belt. It's good to 100K but rubber also ages and most places suggest replacement after 8 years. 12 years might make me nervous but I've had a 25 year old car with the original belt.

Thank you both for the advice!

Did anyone have any suggestions on hard to find parts or commonly needed replacements that arenít too difficult to get to when I go to the junkyard this week to get my replacement mirror. The junked one is a carbon copy of my own car.

I can't offhand think of any parts that aren't still available - Rockauto.com has just about everything. If that JY car has all the same options, it might be worth grabbing all the control modules - ECM, TCM, BCM, etc. I fear electronic failures the most.

If you see a Redline, grab the bumpers.

IDK about this - I didn't do mine on the '07 until 111k mi. (9 yrs.) and it came off looking like new. But speaking of rubber - you surely want to replace the front brake hoses. They will definitely collapse and not allow the calipers to release which will smoke your brakes.

Any particular reason for the redline bumper rather than just the standard Vue bumper?

They are hard to find and you could sell them for good money.
