Default AIRBAG DISABLE (seat)

Airbag techie question...

I am modding some (Saturn) seats for an IHC Scout II... they are electric... and have AIRBAGS.
What is the best way to make (damn) sure they never engage, and to disable any arming or triggers?
Thanks!

They came from this... whatever that is!! :-)

If not plugged in they can’t deploy. Worst case scenario is they’d go off and save your life..

Check with a GM dealer service department and/or salvage yard people familiar with airbags. They should be informed about safety when working on undeployed airbags and how to deploy them manually to render them safe. In your situation, an undeployed seat airbag is not likely to be used in a different vehicle so either removing the airbag or other means may be used to ensure they never deploy by accident.

Earlier airbags have a shorting bar at the connectors - when battery power is removed and reserve power from the SDM is drained by waiting several minutes (or more), the yellow wiring connectors are disconnected with the shorting bar immediately shorting the airbag connection. Shorting the two terminals prevents any stray static electricity from having enough voltage to fire the airbag. In later airbags, disposing of undeployed airbags whether in a vehicle or after removal from a vehicle is handled by disconnecting the yellow wiring connector and inserting a wire jumper (or creating a short circuit) to prevent any voltage from triggering the airbag.

If I'm not mistaken, leaving an airbag connector without shorting the two terminals leaves the possibility of inadvertent airbag deployment, however small the possibility of this occurring. Intentionally shorting the two wires either by cutting and stripping back both wires to wrap together and tape (or shrink wrap) or inserting a wire jumper into the female(?) terminals should render the airbag from ever deploying since any voltage cannot enter this looped circuit to provide power to trigger the explosive device.

If they go off, it would be a totally random event causing loss of control and perhaps a crash that kills you. But you probably have a better chance of winning a Powerball before that happens.
