Thumbs Up New car in the fold - our new "s-series" on ease of maintenance

I know there is an ongoing thread about what the next "S-Series" is as far as low cost of ownership and ease of DIY repair. I think I've found mine.

It's new to the household and replaces my wife's 2006 Nissan Sentra. It's a 2013 Kia Soul with the 1.6 direct injection engine! I just did the first oil change this morning and it was stupid easy. The filter is right next to, but slightly above the oil pan and it's very easily accessible. The filter is also vertical which means minimal mess and easy pre-filling with oil.

The engine bay is super roomy and everything is easy to access. it gets 30-35mpg, is pretty peppy and very spacious and comfortable.

Toyota Corolla's are very easy to repair...if you ever need to repair them. Those things go hundreds of thousands of miles on their original engine/trans. While I liked the Saturn for it's easy repairs, I liked them more for their plastic bodies. Buying any car in Michigan over 10 years old is usually an repairable rust bucket. Sometimes there are owners that took care to wash the salt off weekly and garage the car, but they usually want absurd amounts of money.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

I've found that the space in engine bays of most modern cars is quite lacking. Not so on the Soul:
