Default Valve Cover Question

I've never seen a VC come like this so thought I would ask here. I am about to replace my 96 SL2 valve cover with an aluminum one I bought off eBay. The one I bought has this pre-made gasket stuff on it which I have never seen before so I am stumped. I have the Fel-Pro gasket with new grommets. Should I just peel off this grey gasket that's already on it and use the Fel-Pro instead? Or just put it on with this grey gasket stuff on it and not use the Fel-Pro gasket? Here's the URL to an eBay VC that has the grey stuff on it and looks just like the one I got in the mail.

If that valve cover is new old stock (whitch seems unlikely but I suppose still possible) that's just the gasket that comes with it from the factory. When I bought a new (old stock) plastic one a few months ago it came with its own gasket

So... leave it on? Just use the FP grommets? It seems stuck on there really good. I bought it a long time ago actually when there was a guy selling powder coated VC's in a range of cool colors. Mine is glittery silver powder coated.

If the gasket already on the cover doesn't feel dried out or isn't split anywhere, I'd just use the gasket on the cover and save the one you bought for later when it comes time to change it. For the grommets though, it doesn't look like yours comes with them, assuming the eBay pics are identical to yours, so I would use the grommets you bought previously.

I think I'd read somewhere that those covers came with gray RTV on them from the factory. You'd want to search to double check, though.

That is RTV on it... but you still need all the bolts and that different from the 96-98 style cover.... they run like 4-5 a piece if you can find them new..... or try and find someone who has them laying around.....

As long as it's still pliable I'd definitely just use the grey RTV that's on the cover you bought and save the Felpro kit for later (or sell it w/o the grommets, since they sell those separately).
