Default Rattling noise, what can it be?

Hi all. I have a 2002 Vue, manual transmission, 2WD.

Recently, probably within the last month, I've started noticing a rattling noise, seems to be coming from the right rear. It kind of sounds like the seat or something isn't anchored down, and I made sure the spare tire was securely fastened in just to be sure. A neighbor told me they could hear a rattling noise when I pulled in.

It seems to be more noticeable at slower speeds, about 35 MPH and lower.

Any ideas? I don't have any money for repairs right now...just want to know is it safe to drive until I do have the money (maybe 2 months)?

I last had the tires rotated last month when I had an oil change, and no one indicated anything was wrong....

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

Tried looking under the rear and shaking things with your hand?

yeah.. +1 on the rear sway bar links... On my old 2004 view.. they actually separated.. and were just hanging.. on both sides!...

otherwise check the compartment where the jack is located. as something could be loose and rattling in there as well... (even though its on the left side, i believe).. worth a shot

I wouldn't know a sway bar if it jumped up and smacked me right now. I'll have a friend take a look at it.

I also wondered if it was my exhaust, one of those hooks that support it broke (just to the right of the muffler) and I got some wire at Home Depot and tied it up for support. Don't think that was it.

Thanks!

You'd know what a sway bar feels like if it jumped up and hit you. Google images of sway bars.....

Default Re: Rattling noise, what can it be?

wheel cover??? I have the plastic wheel covers. Some of the plastic nuts were cracked and couldn't be snugged up and tightened. I bought some new plastic nuts, this seemed to help quite down the wheel cover rattling around.

A friend took a look underneath and found that the link is broken. He showed me a site called rockauto.com where I can get the part for under $6. $2.99 shipping.
