Default No key screwdriver works?

Found an 05 v6 model at impound. Screwdriver is jammed into key cylinder and it starts and drives fine. How is this? What parts do you need to fix it? I thought vues had odd security issues even with the proper key?

You're asking how a broken anti theft system allows starting/running in an impound and want to know why it can start/run yet still has GMs anti theft system. Be careful of what you ask in open forums.

The simple answer is if the security light is on when the engine is started and running, the Passlock sensors may be damaged when the engine was running, detected by the bcm, disables Passlock entirely and turns on the security light. A crash is one way to damage Passlock. A set of sensors in the steering column monitors ignition lock cylinder/ignition switch rotation and sends signals to the bcm for the GO/NO GO signal sent to the ecm. If the ecm is sent a no go signal from the Passlock sensors the ecm is programmed to disable injector operation. If the ecm is sent a go signal, injectors are allowed to operate. A simple theft deterrent system using what's already known, the EFI system to control who can drive and who cannot.

Default Re: No key screwdriver works?

I'm not sure how GM did it in 2005. Look carefully at the column lock and see if looks like my 2003.

I bypassed the "Passlock" system and installed a remote starter. On the GM Passlock version on my 2003, this involved soldering a resistor into the wiring harness to trick the BCM into thinking the correct key was inserted. Your 2005 may have used a different system so look before you start doing anything.

I tow my Vue behind our motorhome, so I also disabled the steering column lock.

maybe my question is, how do you replace a lost key and/or replace the lock cylinder and have no issues with starting. new lock cylinder does not match the door locks? and no remote unlocking with no keyfob? you would say why buy this vue? no body damage. runs ok. it has no future unless its as a parts car?

You just buy a new lock cylinder. If you buy a GM one it will come with the wafers to key it to the door. If you buy aftermarket it will come with keys that donít match the door.

Yes, but you won't have the wafers to key it and the junk yards never have the original key.

^ True as immobilisers add another layer of security - (1)Passlock disables injector operation while the (2)rfid chip in keys (Passkey) add the coded chip to provide another layer to security in addition to disabling injectors, starting or both. Unfortunately, smart thieves are getting around this too..............

That year Vue doesn't use a chip key which is why a screwdriver can start it. Pretty sure you need the key to remove a junkyard lock cylinder but you can get a new one for around $35. You would need a few wafers so it actually locks with your original key or you can swap them around on a used one.
