Hey silver sl,
Lots of talk on the forum regarding fuel economy. Here is a thread on the SL1 in particular:

Here is a list, but around 29-33mpg is about what most of us average, with some SL(Manual 5-speed) owners seeing closer to 40mpg highway(34-38mog combined).

I have a 2001 SC1 with an automatic. I was getting between 28 and 31 mpg mostly city driving. Now my commute has changed to almost all highway, granted up and down the mountains, and I am getting between 38 and 42 mpg. The highest I've seen was 42.84.

I'm a little anal and calculate every tank on the Fuelio app. My mileage should be going up a little soon with summer gas blends coming and switching back to all season tires from my studded snow tires.

I should also mention that one of the most determining factors in MPG is how heavy the foot of the operator is.

Very true. I don't seem to get very good mpg out of my DOHC, when I am running the tachometer near that red area on takeoffs.....

When I drive it responsibly, I can get about 37mpg on the highway. Probably 29-30mpg city.

I get low 20's city and high 20's highway. Also burn a quart per 500 or so and its an auto-tragic. Not to mention it has an exhaust leak at the down pipe joint, and it does have 93k on it. Time for a stripper model SL.

Fix the exhaust leak and you will restore your lost mpg. It will also prevent you from burning out your exhaust valves.

I was just going to say the same thing.

My 2002 SL1 manual averages 38-40mpg in winter and 44-45mpg in summer on my commute to work. Same driving on my 96 automatic was 42mpg summer and 36 winter.
