Default High Idle after running out of gas..

So my kid ran her 2002 Saturn SL1 out of gas this morning. (Dumb Story) Anyway, I added a few gallons and she started right up. Problem now is it's idling around 3000 rpm. Car was running fine before running dry. The idle doesn't change with engine temp or a/c operation. Any idea's what the connection would be to running out of gas? For kicks I disconnected the battery for the night hoping it corrects itself in the morning.

Thanks for any ideas!

Jeff

Running out of gas is just one of those learning curves and should not have caused the high idle problem. Coincidence. At 3k rpm, check for a large vacuum leak; brake vacuum hose, pcv valve hose, loosened throttle body, egr valve loosened, anything to allow a large vacuum leak. Examine throttle linkage. Is it stuck open? The throttle stop should show throttle in closed, home position.

I agree, I had her put the pedal to the floor and try starting it before I knew it was out of gas. I wonder if the throttle body is dirty and the plate isn't closing all the way. Naturally we have a full day of high school kid stuff going on today so I won't get to fool with it till tomorrow.

We did learn through the whole fiasco that the gas gauge doesn't go all the way to "E" before running out of gas nor does the "Low Fuel Light" come on.

Thanks for the ideas!

Battery disconnect/reconnect to reset an errant high idle? Much better than running around looking for a vacuum leak.
