Default Leaking fuel or

2006 Saturn Vue 2.2L

Got an EVAP code earlier this week P0496 and smelt gas coming from the fuel tank, went to go look under and seen fuel around the tank hose. What caused the leak? Would I need to replace the whole tank? Vehicle does have 218k miles. Has anyone come across this problem? Please Help

The vehicle needs to be inspected closely, probably while on a lift.

I suspect the filler neck (metal) has a hold and/or the rubber connecting hose is damaged.

It turned out to be one of the hoses connected to the fuel pump module that was leaking fuel, the plastic nipple hoses connects to gets brittle overtime, what a designed flaw by GM. Unfortunately you have to replace the whole pump assembly.
