Default 2006 3.5 Honda cuts fuel off (??) at 3500 rpm

In park AND while driving RPM's hit pretty much exactly 3500 and it feels like a fuel cut off rev limiter. Bounces right around 3500 RPM. Have never had an issue like this until just now. Idles and drives just fine up to 3500 and then what feels like the fuel cutting out to control revs kicks in. Anyone had this issue with their Honda motor before and what was the cause. A little stumped here.

I did some searching and found this information regarding a DTC P2649. I hope it will be useful.

Yea, after doing a bunch of searching on the internet this failure is not that uncommon and it seems that the common causes of this failure code are low oil level, partially blocked VVT filter screen or faulty pressure switch or solenoid. I'll start with cleaning the VVT screen because it's the easiest/cheapest (and almost all others that have replaced the sensors said they had to clean/replace the screen for the problem to finally be fixed) and go from there. I'll post results after the fixes.

For everyone that thinks/says imports are much more reliable, etc that is BS. This Vue has the Honda power train and I've have the most problems with this vehicle in comparison to all my other GM vehicles. Pretty much all the problems/issues/codes have been from the PT....

Turned out to be an easy/simple fix. When I took the front RH tire off and got in there it turned out the wire for the VVt solenoid FELL OUT of the wether pack connector housing. The terminal was damaged during assy from the looks of it as it would not stay in because the retention ears were bent over. Fixed that and now it's back together and locked. RPM's go to redline again, yay. Gotta love the simple easy wins!
