1994 SL1
Wrench Cracked transmission filter 1994 SL1

Just replaced the spin on filter on my daughters 1994 SL1.

I've never even heard of this before so I thought it might be interesting.

After removing the pebble guard under the radiator, the intake and the left wheel and inner fender cover, I pressure washed the transaxle and engine to remove all the leaked fluid, dirt, and gunk so I could see where the tranny fluid was leaking from.

Needless to say, I was very surprised, especially since Wix filters are purported to be very good.

WIX is certainly one of the best filter manufacturers world wide, let alone in North America. Frankly, defects of this kind are extremely rare even for lesser quality brand filters. The fact that you found a WIX filter with a fracture defect is rare event, but shouldn't come as a surprise. Why? It only goes to show us that things made by we human beings can be imperfect because we're imperfect, nothing more than that, and it's also the reason manufacturers provide warranties on their products. They're fully aware that there will be the inevitable part failure at some point in time.

If it were me, I would continue using that WIX brand of filter with the same confidence in its quality level that I'd had before.

While I no longer have my SL2, I recall changing the tranny filter on it & my earlier SW2 several times. Never did I have to go to the trouble of removing the wheel or inner fender. I recall simply removing the intake unit & changing the filter easily from above.
