Default Replacing timing set

I have an 05 vue which I am replacing the motor in. The replacement motor has 75,000 miles on it and I have considered replacing the timing set. I went as far as ordering the timing chain set and sprockets. My question is this, how complex of a job is this? The manual I have ( Haynes) isnít much help. Any special tools needed for this job? Anything I need to know?

Also Iím not sure what year the replacement motor is or what it came out of. I do know there were issues with the Oiler and tensioner on earlier motors. Is there a way to tell what year motor I will be getting or able to tell if I do have the motor with the timing set issues?

If you have the motor out it should be relatively simple.

The Cloyes kit comes with good instructions. Even if you don't have the Cloyes kit you can follow their instructions. Should be on their website.

Other than torgue wrenches, I don't recall any special tools.

Should probably do the water pump and thermostat while you're at it.

There should be codes stamped on the engine where you can determine the year. See attached.

I wAs looking at the old post when I saw the pics of the tensioners and realized my new kit came with the old style gen 2 tensioner, the one without the o-ring. Is this cause for concern? it also came ďactivatedĒ.

I'd prefer the newest style, but the ver 2 should be good for 100k or so.

You should be able to re-cock the tensioner, I'm not sure how to re-cock the ver #2.
