Default 2004 Vue V6 Valve Cover Gaskets

Just an FYI for 04/05 Vue V6 (Honda) motors. Had a gradually worsening oil leak. A little google search about that v6 motor and it is apparent that the the valve cover gaskets, coil seat gaskets, and valve cover bolt grommets start leaking a little after 100k miles. So, I got a gasket kit.

The kit includes the gaskets for the valve cover, coil seats, and bolts for both sides of the motor.

If you watch a few of the youtubes about this chore you get the idea. However, none of the youtubers did this on a Vue. All I could find did this chore on a Honda with this motor. So, you might wonder: do you have to remove the intake snorkle, intake plenum cover, and plenum? Yes. You do. On some Honda vehicles, you can get the valve covers off with that stuff left in place. I tried. There was no way to get the front valve cover to clear unless I forced it harder than I was willing to get it past parts of the wiring harness (injectors, etc.). I didn't force it.

What about the back valve cover, you ask? Well, the second tid bit - plan on doing both while you have it apart. I only did the front. I spent some time trying to get the front cover off/out without removing the intake stuff and ran out of willingness to do the back cover. In hind sight, should have worked up more willingness and done the back, also.

Regarding the gaskets. When I got the valve cover off, all of the gaskets/grommets showed oil getting past them. The main cover gasket was quite stiff/non-flexible and was likely going to only get a lot worse, quickly.

The press in seats for the spark plug coils were a little difficult to get out. Be careful. The cover is aluminum and will tear up easily. A few of the youtubers suggested freezing the new ones while you pulled the covers. I did that and didn't have any trouble pressing them into place with my hands and little very gentle tapping of the edges with a wooded dowel.

The gaskets for the intake plenum cover and plenum are metal and mine were in pretty good shape when they came off. I cleaned them up and re-used them.

Take pictures of everything before you take each portion apart and put it back the way you found it.

This is when someone posts the link to linchpin or wrenchpin or something like that doing a video on this. It that vid exists, do what he says.

Spark plug wells are full of oil so I'm doing this now. It should go without saying that you do a valve adjustment/check at this point too.
