Default Power windows motor, 2001 SL2

I have a question both front PWM need to be replaced in my Saturn, what is the recommendation to just buy the motors or the motors with the assembly?

Also any recommendation where to get them other the Ebay so i know i am getting the correct part for my car.

feedback will be greatly appreciated.

regards,

Daniel.

Hello Daniel,
it would help to know what car , mileage , symptoms

Did both motors cease ops simultaneously?

In most vehicles, dried up grease on the tracks which comprise the window-lifting mechanism cause excessive friction/drag that overloads the motor, or hand crank.
On our old Saturns, the guides in the doorframe also develop frictional drag which adds to the problem.

I would try a local wrecking yard found thru car-part.com which has same vehicle. The motors tend to be pretty hardy... and junkyards are source of much Ebay stuff. Plus, installation in your car is reverse of removal.

The switches are also known to go bad after a while. My (now ex-)wife's 2001 SL1 switch cluster has been replaced twice--first with one from a salvage yard, next with her old one which I'd cleaned up. Contacts inside get pitted and carboned up after a while.

...
RIP my 2002 SL1, totaled 9/18/2012... found its replacement (2002 SL) 9/26/12, traded it in 5/10/2018 (199,604 miles).

I'm going to guess this is for the 2001 SL2 seeing that is what is in the title and the 96 SL would not likely have power windows.

The part numbers can be looked up on the GM Parts Websites like this one >> Wholesale GM Parts Online.

For the 2001 SL2 the regulator with motor part numbers are
21171231 - Left front door (drivers)
21171230 - Right front door (passenger)
If looking for used you can get from a 1996-2002 S Series Sedan or S Series Wagon donor.

However, as already mentioned, they may not be working for other reasons like the switch pod or the slides. Be sure to test for this before buying parts. The slides are known to break and they are inexpensive to replace. Lubrication of the components also help.

You can use those part numbers to look up on Amazon and eBay for the best price. You can also go to your local GM Dealer or buy from an on-line GM Parts Dealer.

Thank you for all the information, i was able to replaced both motors.
First able my local auto part store had the motors in stock, i got them and remove the inner and outer door panels (thanks to Richpin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XkfZ...cg80g_v7-KqNr-) and the parts where incorrect so i returned them and look in ebay since i had the part on hand and found them for $29 (new passenger) and $34 (refur. driver).
The windows work perfectly now.
