Default That carrier bearing...

Obviously AWD.

I have some driveline shudder - the PO put on a brand new set of wheels and tires so I don't suspect wheels out of balance but cannot rule that out yet. (I may rotate them to see if that makes a difference.)

But it feels kind of like an AWD Bravada I had did when the drive shaft went bad (totally different technology but it reminds of the way that felt - it isn't constant, sometimes you don't even feel it.)

Anyway, I got under it and tried to move the drive shaft in the carrier bearing - and it does move some. It is NOT as bad as the Youtube's out there that show a totally failed bearing that clanks around inside the metal bracket - but it moves about a 1/4 inch. I am not sure if it should move at all - it is a rubber gasket so it would make sense if it moved some, but I think it is a hard rubber.

Thoughts?

Remove the driveshaft assembly and go for a drive. If the shudder goes away, you know what to concentrate on.

...AND IF YOU DO NEED A DRIVESHAFT, AND HAVE A FEW BUCKS, GO WITH A DRIVESHAFT FROM SHAFTMASTERS. IT IS A HIGH QUALITY BUILT UNIT , GETS RID OF THE CV END AND REPLACES IT WITH A SLIP JOINT, SHAFT IS BEEFIER ALSO, ALONG WITH BETTER U JOINTS, JUST MY .02, DC

I see you live in Northern VA. Take the drive shaft out and throw it away. It's going to fail anyway. Remove the rest of the rear drive train at you convenience.

We had snow and sleet Saturday and the AWD helped.

When I test drove a FWD in the rain too easy to spin the wheels - decided AWD is a must.

YMMV.

...The driveshaft from shaftmasters is well worth the money, compared to the junk factory shaft and other makers on ebay of a stock type one . the shaft alone is bigger and more hd. Look closely at the pics of a shaftmasters one. There is no comparison. Great cust. service also, just my.02, DC
