Default P0017 Error: which bank is "B"

Hey there,
I've got the dreaded "P0017 Crankshaft Position Camshaft Position Correlation Bank 1 Sensor B" error on my '07 POS Aura XR.

I put in a new sensor and the CEL was off for a couple days and now its back. I am questioning if I put it into the correct spot. I installed it in the lower left, closest to the belt. What I labeled "B" in the photo.

Did I install it in the wrong one?

I am praying that I did as I can't have this be a timing chain issue as the car is only worth $800-$100 on trade in, and I just had to put $500 in suspension, and now the steering pump is notchy. I'm hoping a flush with royal purple will cure that... for a while.

Your thoughts and advice is greatly appreciated...

- Doug

2007 AURA XR
Default Re: P0017 Error: which bank is "B"

We've got 175,000 plus in our 07 XR. Exact same code. I have thought about replacing that sensor but many times on here I read that it doesn't resolve the issue. I check the CEL code with my scanner and just clear it. Sometimes if the code is not present, I'll rev the engine a little at first start, keep it around 1500-2000 rpm for a minute or two. Either coincidence or luck, this seems to help for a few days.

Bought the car last year from my neighbor for $3,000. Have replaced shocks, struts, intermediate steering shaft, tires and spark plugs. There is a bit of a stutter at idle from the engine, probably why the code. Last night we were plagued by the brake lights on all the time/no cruise which pulling and reseating the blue connector in the panel on the passenger side of the console fixed.

I too cannot see spending $3,500 to replace the timing chain system. What a shame since the car otherwise is in great shape, great first car for my new driver. When I had my SC2, a used engine swap wasn't a fear but I'm bound to not get that with these 3.6 VVT engines. My wife's cousin's Traverse had the engine blow up on hers and spending $6,000 for a new engine was not even considered. It had the same 3.6 VVT as well.
