2008 VUE 3.6L
Default 08 vue parking brakes help

Hi guys, had a problem with the rear brake pads and rotor was messed up so bought all new rotors and brake pads.
Put on the rear ones, had a heck of a time getting the rotors off. The parking brake shoe liner came off both sides so ordered new shoes and hardware.
Tried to replace today and it is a PITA....

Has anybody replaced these and if so did you do it with the hub in place or remove it. I tried to remove it and broke 2 bolts,(they were almost all the way out when they snapped.)
Looked everywhere to find the procedure to replace these, but all i found was just rear brakes.
With the hub in place you have to stand on your head and the hub is smack in the road to put on springs. If any body has done this i would LOVE to hear what you did to get it done.........

Thanks Deak

Default Re: 08 vue parking brakes help

1-Do your rear disc brakes use the inside part of the rotor as the parking brake?

2-Is there an access hole to adjust the parking brake star wheel adjuster?

3-Are the rear discs held onto the wheel hub with one screw?

If you answer yes to all three questions then we have the same combination rear disc and parking brakes. If the parking brakes are worn down, the rotors may be difficult to remove even when the parking lever is released. The access hole in the center of each disc allows adjusting the the star wheel. The star wheel must be adjusted to retract the brake shoes to allow the rotor to come off the wheel hub. My L300 has this setup and I suspect most rear disc brakes use the tall top hat design of rotors to incorporate the parking brakes inside the disc. You can try googling for rear disc brake repairs but search for parking brakes with rear discs. The only other way to have accurate info would be subscribing to either alldata or Mitchell online for service manuals.
